I was rereading this. I like its filthy exclamatory qualities, and how Olson’s kinetic historian poetic might be represented within the dart of the kingfisher and its “fetid nest” of (cultural) decay. Why does it work so well within the Black Mountain mode? I think that has something to do with timing and post modernism, coupled with the message to the clearest section of the poem, saying that change is necessary to stay the same. Will Olson find love among the stones?
